I photograph what holds still long enough and, more often, what doesn't — chickadees at the feeder in January, herons working a pond edge, the particular grey-green of lichen on a fence post. The archive behind this site runs to tens of thousands of frames, catalogued by species, place, and season the way a field notebook would be.
Most of the work is made close to home in Western New York: Letchworth, the Buffalo waterfront, farm country south of the city, and a lot of snow. The rest comes from travelling with a camera — Italy, Arizona, Belize, the national parks.
